Rebuilding Together Portland

A mission‑driven digital transformation making critical home‑repair services more accessible to low‑income seniors and homeowners with disabilities.

Challenge

Rebuilding Together Portland, a non‑profit dedicated to preserving affordable housing through free home‑repair programs, needed modern systems to sustain its impact. When I joined as Assistant Director in 2015, their operations were largely offline—grant tracking, volunteer recruitment, and homeowner applications all relied on manual processes that limited outreach and efficiency.

Solution

I first established a digital grant‑writing and tracking system that streamlined submissions and reporting, helping the organization secure more than $100,000 in new funding. After transitioning into agency work, I continued supporting Rebuilding Together Portland as Marketing Director, leading the development of a new website that transformed how the organization connects with its community.

The site introduced online donations, digital volunteer registration, and a fully accessible homeowner application form. Each feature was built with usability in mind, ensuring that seniors and disabled homeowners—many without access to transportation or printers—could easily apply for assistance.

Key Roles

  • Digital Infrastructure:  Created systems to track and report on grant progress, significantly increasing funding capacity.

  • Website Development & Design:  Directed creation of a modern, easy‑to‑navigate platform with donation, volunteer, and application portals.

  • Marketing & Outreach:  Led online communications, strengthening community awareness and donor engagement.

  • Accessibility Strategy:  Ensured all forms and processes were ADA‑compliant and usable on any device, expanding reach to vulnerable populations.

Impact

The new digital systems revolutionized how Rebuilding Together Portland operates, dramatically improving efficiency and accessibility. The organization can now reach and serve more homeowners, generate consistent donations, and mobilize volunteers online—laying a sustainable foundation for continued community growth and support.
