Oregon 250

A statewide digital storytelling platform led by the Oregon Historical Society, celebrating 250 years of Oregon’s history, culture, and community.

Challenge

In preparation for America’s 250th birthday, the Oregon Historical Society spearheaded a statewide initiative to commemorate Oregon’s contributions over the past two and a half centuries. They needed a modern website that could both showcase Oregon’s unique story and serve as a hub for communities across the state to share events and celebrations honoring the past, present, and future.

Solution

Collaborating with the Oregon Historical Society’s internal team, I led the creative strategy and digital production for Oregon 250, a website designed to inspire civic pride and connection. The platform highlights key moments in Oregon’s history alongside dynamic, interactive features such as an evolving events calendar, resource library, and storytelling sections that evolve throughout the anniversary year.

Careful attention went into information hierarchy and tone—balancing historical integrity with visual warmth and accessibility—to ensure the site appeals to both educators and the general public.

Key Roles

  • Creative Direction & UX Design:  Guided design structure, navigation, and storytelling flow to clearly present Oregon’s 250‑year journey.

  • Project Management:  Coordinated designers, developers, writers, and stakeholders to meet an ambitious launch timeline set by the state partnership.

  • Content Integration:  Collaborated on narrative and visual assets drawn from OHS archives to ensure historical accuracy and a cohesive look.

  • Community Engagement Strategy:  Developed an event‑submission system, enabling organizations statewide to contribute and promote their celebrations directly on the site.

Impact

The Oregon 250 website established a unified digital home for statewide anniversary initiatives, connecting Oregon’s communities through shared history. Its interactive design and flexible architecture allow the content to expand over time, positioning the site as a living record that grows alongside the celebration it represents.
