Macheke Sustainability Project

A volunteer partnership using brand storytelling and digital strategy to expand education and sustainability programs in rural Zimbabwe.

Challenge

The Macheke Sustainability Project, a small international non‑profit focused on education and sustainable agriculture initiatives in Zimbabwe, needed a unified communications presence to drive awareness and funding. With limited resources and no consistent brand identity, outreach was fragmented—making it difficult to engage donors, attract sustaining supporters, and share measurable impact.

Solution

As the Communications Director, I led a full rebrand and digital transformation to strengthen the organization’s story and expand its reach. Working closely with the board, I developed a new brand identity—including logo design, color palette, tone of voice, and social‑media style guide—and directed the creation of a donation‑enabled website that simplified giving and improved transparency.

I also planned and executed fundraising and marketing campaigns that positioned the organization as trustworthy, community‑driven, and results‑oriented, using social platforms, newsletters, and storytelling content to highlight tangible project outcomes.

Key Roles

  • Brand Development: Created comprehensive visual and verbal identity, including logo system, brand guide, and digital templates.

  • Digital Strategy: Directed design and launch of a new website with integrated donation functionality to streamline giving.

  • Fundraising Leadership: Organized and executed the organization’s largest fundraising campaign to‑date.

  • Marketing Optimization: Increased social‑media following by 900% and sustained monthly donations by 250% through consistent storytelling and engagement.

Impact

The refreshed brand and digital presence transformed the Macheke Sustainability Project’s visibility and stability. The organization now reaches a growing global audience, generating ongoing financial support and raising awareness of its mission to promote sustainable education and agriculture in Zimbabwe.
